What is Reverse 911?
The Community Telephone Emergency
Notification System, called Reverse 911, is
designed to provide a geographically
selected group of phone numbers,
automatically call each number, and play a
pre-corded message giving emergency
instructions to whomever receives the
message.
The system program uses the
existing E911 database when contacting
residents. Phone numbers for this database
are automatically updated weekly through
local phone company providers. If a resident
or business moves or changes a phone number,
this information will be provided to the
City within 10 days. Numbers supplied by the
phone company should include unlisted
numbers and "Do Not Call" numbers. However,
these phone numbers do not include cellular
phone listings.
Residents or businesses
using cellular services and that wish to be
notified in an emergency, must provide their
information to the Fire Department.
Additionally, a person or business that does
not wish to be included in the
Community Notification System may
request that their number be removed from
the database.
If you wish to
submit a written request, please complete
the
Reverse 911 Authorization form and
mail/drop off at City Hall, Oberlin Police
or Oberlin Fire stations.
